"LOU" Portrait of Lou Ottens.

There are men who don't seek the limelight, but who illuminate the world.

Lou Ottens was one of them. A Dutch engineer and director at Philips in the 1960s, he gave birth to a seemingly modest object: the compact audio cassette. A plastic rectangle, two reels, a magnetic tape. Nothing spectacular, and yet a silent revolution. Thanks to him, music became portable. Voices left the living room and entered our pockets. Intimacy became transportable. The cassette tape still resonates.
